Emergency Family Shelter
Our Emergency Family Shelter program combines a private, safe setting and basic necessities with effective, individualized case management services for homeless families with children. The six unit apartment housed 24 families in FY19, including 58 children. 84% of the children served were under the age of 12. Through the case management process, families set goals, work on addressing past issues that can impact their housing, housekeeping skills, parenting techniques and learn how to have a healthy relationship with their landlord.
“My journey to homelessness began a long time ago. I once lived in a Chicago apartment with my five children. I worked for the same hospital for over 10 years. But my life went downhill when the father of my twin sons died in an accident. Our family fell apart emotionally and financially.”
